Punkin King has worked in the funeral industry since 1980. Punkin has lived in Checotah since 1999 and is an avid golfer.
Funeral Director /Embalmer
Shannon Powell is a dedicated funeral service professional with deep roots in southeastern Oklahoma. A lifelong resident of McAlester and a 1998 graduate of Pittsburg High School, Shannon has spent his career serving families with compassion, dignity, and care.
After moving to Oklahoma City, he attended the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Funeral Service. He is a fully licensed funeral director and embalmer in the State of Oklahoma.
In 2019, Shannon expanded his professional experience by relocating to Topeka, Kansas, where he also obtained his Kansas funeral service and embalmer license. In 2023, he returned home to Oklahoma, settling in Checotah to be closer to his family and the community he loves.
Shannon is also a licensed life insurance provider in Oklahoma and is trained to assist families with pre‑planning, including funeral arrangements and cremation options. His goal is to guide families through meaningful decisions with clarity, respect, and genuine care.
Outside of his professional work, Shannon values time with his family and the close‑knit communities of southeastern Oklahoma.

Growing up in Hobart, Oklahoma, Jay Hunn discovered his calling to funeral service early in life. While attending Buffalo High School in Buffalo, Oklahoma, he began working at a local funeral home—washing cars, assisting with services, and learning firsthand the importance of compassion and care during difficult times. That early experience shaped the foundation of his lifelong commitment to serving families.
After graduation, Jay continued his path by earning a Bachelor of Science in Funeral Science from the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond. His dedication to the profession has remained constant throughout his career.
Jay is an active and respected member of the Oklahoma Funeral Directors Association, where he has served in every leadership role. His service extends nationally as well, having held multiple positions within the National Funeral Directors Association. His involvement reflects a deep commitment not only to the families he serves, but also to the advancement of the funeral profession as a whole.
