Wilma Garrison Obituary

Wilma Garrison, a beloved mother, Granny, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2025, at the age of 96. Born on October 6, 1928, in Kingfisher, Oklahoma, she lived a life filled with love, service, and creativity.

She married the love of her life, Norris Donald Garrison, on May 11, 1947, in Checotah, Oklahoma. Together, they built a beautiful life, sharing 71 years of marriage filled with laughter, faith, and unwavering dedication to their family.

Wilma was known for her warmth and kindness, always putting family first. She was an exceptional mother and Granny, providing a home filled with love, wisdom, and the comforting aroma of home-cooked meals. Her cooking was legendary, with recipes passed down through generations that will continue to be cherished. She also had a remarkable talent for crafts of all kinds, using her creativity to make gifts, decorations, and handmade treasures that brought joy to so many.

She and Norris became members of First Baptist Church in Checotah, Oklahoma, in 1979 and were devoted servants in their faith community. Wilma volunteered regularly at the church and at Oklahoma Tourism Information Centers, sharing her welcoming spirit with all she met. She also taught craft classes in Checotah, spreading her skills and passion to friends and neighbors.

Wilma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Norris; her parents, John David Every and Sara Louella Jeffries; her son, Norris Ronald Garrison; her brother, James Richard Every; her sister-in-law, Ellawee Every; and her nephew, Larry Every.

She is survived by her children: James Donald Garrison (Maureen) and John Kevin Garrison (DeAnn); her grandchildren: Mandy Langley (Michael), Gabriel Garrison (Cheyenne), Steven Garrison (Ashley), Anna Garrison, Justin Mitchell, and Jesse Mitchell (Tamara); and her great-grandchildren: Jude, Avery, and Charlotte (children of Steven and Ashley); Hunter and Calvin (children of Gabriel and Cheyenne); Jacob, Seth, Paul, and Lauren (children of Jesse and Tamara); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever treasure her memory.

Wilma’s legacy is one of love, resilience, creativity, and service. She will dearly be missed but will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A service to celebrate Wilma’s life will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025, at Hunn Funeral Home in Checotah, Oklahoma. She will be laid to rest beside Norris at Greenlawn Cemetery in Checotah.
