Vernal June Smith, 93, of Muskogee, Oklahoma, peacefully passed from this life on Saturday, July 15, 2023. She was born February 11, 1930, in Stigler, Oklahoma, to Robert and Elma (Sedwick) Baker.
After high school, June began working as a switchboard operator at Southwestern Bell Telephone. Later, she worked at Funston Pecans. Most importantly, she devoted her life to being a homemaker, mother and grandmother.
She married Ted Smith in Muskogee on August 1,1948. This union was blessed with five children: Rita, Ray, Russell, Robin and Rhonda. They were married over 59 years, until Ted's passing in 2008.
June was a member of West Side Church of Christ in Muskogee and a Volunteers of America volunteer. She was queen of the Muskogee Red Hat Society. She enjoyed traveling, playing games, crafting and working with the church. She loved parties, Branson trips and laughing.
Preceding June in death were her parents; her husband, Ted; sons, Ray and Russell; granddaughter, Valerie Pipkins; great-granddaughter, Coral Parsons; and brother, Boyd Baker.
She is survived by three daughters and their spouses, Rita and Roy Parsons of Tulsa, OK, Robin and Fred Greiner of Orlando, FL, and Rhonda and Chris Branscum of Ft. Gibson, OK; daughters-in-law, Nancy and Sharon Smith of Muskogee, OK; brother, Ron Baker and his wife Betty of Sapulpa, OK; nine grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and one on the way; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, church family and friends.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at West Side Church of Christ in Muskogee. Celebration of June's Life will be held at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, July 27, 2023 at West Side Church of Christ in Muskogee. Interment will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Fort Gibson National Cemetery.
