Thomas Gaylord Sweet, Jr. 75, of Checotah, Oklahoma passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2022. He was born on January 30, 1947, to Thomas G. Sweet, Sr. and Kathryn (Wolfenbarger) Sweet in Kansas City, Kansas. Tom was raised in a military family and in 1967 joined the US Army. He completed officer training (OCS) at Ft. Benning, Georgia, where his father was also stationed. Tom served in Vietnam and Thailand as a helicopter scout pilot with B Troop, 7/17 Cav. Tom received a Purple Heart, Air Medal, and Bronze Star with Valor. Once out of the service, he continued to fly helicopters for private companies.
He moved to Checotah over 20 years ago setting up an oil parts manufacturing business at the old Livestock Auction Building.
He is survived by his sister, Sharon (Sweet) Francis of Flagstaff; his daughter, Kellie Sue (Sweet) Anderson; son, Chuck Sweet; grandchildren, Meagan Sweet and Joshua Sweet and five great-grandchildren all of Texas.
