Shellie Loretta was born to Shelby and Sallie Durrett on August 10,1963 in Riverside, California. The family of eight children, seven boys and Shellie moved to Council Hill, Oklahoma where they made their home. Shellie attended Midway Public School where she graduated in 1981. Her very close friend Debbie (Allison) Dorsey says, "In 7-8 grade she loved to steal the boys caps off their heads. Shellie was a giver, she would give her shirt off her back if someone needed it. She never thought she was better than someone else... My favorite thing about her was her laughter. I still can see her smiling and laughing as she stole the caps from the boys". Shellie also loved playing basketball at school she was definitely a fighter when it came to playing. Shellie married Rick Griffin her high school sweetheart in January of 1983, they had two children, Brent and Nikki. Shellie loved watching the kids show their hogs at all the stockshows. Shellie and Rick later divorced in 1999.
Shellie loved her brothers even though they got on each other's nerves A LOT but when it came down to it they were always there for each other. There is a story or two about a rattlesnake and a rat you need to ask her brothers about. Shellie worked for Empire Propane, Tomco Convenient Store and Eufaula IHS for 11 years.
Shellie married Dennis Thomas the love of her life April 21, 2000. Shellie and Dennis loved doing things together no matter what it was and picking on each other was their favorite. And you know Shellie always got the last word. They spent many years together fishing and enjoying their grandchildren. Shellie fought hard and won her fight against breast cancer. Shellie loved BIG and was always there to help anyone who needed it. She LOVED her grandchildren they were the Apple of her eye.
