Ron Garrison, 71-year-old Checotah resident, passed away on Monday, May 30th, 2022, in Tahlequah, OK. He was born on Sunday, August 6th, 1950, to Norris and Wilma (Every) Garrison in Checotah, Ok.
He lived there until he was 6, then headed west with his family. He spent his school years between Muskogee, OK, Gunnison, CO, Grass Valley, CA, and Reno, NV. He received his B.S. Degree in Engineering.
He worked while in college as a bellman, doorman, and parking attendant for Harrah’s in Reno, NV when Mr. Harrah had the Ferrari and Rolls-Royce dealerships, and Ron had the opportunity to drive a variety of high-end vehicles (sometimes very fast)!! Ron held multiple government jobs that led him back to the Checotah area where he retired from the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant as a Mechanical Engineering Technician after 30 years and 15 days of federal service.
Upon retirement, he enjoyed restoring antique cars and trucks, attending car shows and winning numerous trophies. Ron loved taking his nieces and nephews along in many parades throughout the years. He was an avid scale model car and truck collector. He also enjoyed fishing, shooting, and watching old western movies.
Ron was a quiet, reserved man who was always willing to help others first, while never expecting anything in return. He was a great son, big brother, uncle, cousin, and friend who will be tremendously missed by all. In his later years, he was an amazing caregiver to his mom and dad. He was a proud member of the First Baptist Church in Checotah, OK.
Visitation will be 11:00 am to 5:00 pm Saturday, June 4th and 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm Sunday, June 5th at the Hunn Funeral Home. Services will be held Monday, June 6th at 2:00 pm at the Hunn Chapel, 211 W. Okmulgee Ave. in Checotah, OK with Pastor Steve Dennis officiating. Following the service, burial will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steven Garrison, Michael Langley, Bob James, Jerry Longcrier, Duane Curtis and Nick Scott.
