Myrtie Ann Payne, 94, of Muskogee, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday, January 22, 2022, at the Springs in Muskogee. Ann was born on November 24, 1927, in Alikchi, Oklahoma, the daughter of Willis Henry and Lila Jackson (Stephens) Mathews.
On April 7, 1954, Ann married Cecil Payne in Emilano Zapata, in the State of Morelos. She worked for twenty-five years as a telephone operator for Bell South. She would fondly recall the old days working with her friends when she would manually plug in the switch board. Ann loved her family and enjoyed socializing, especially talking on the phone. She was an avid crocheter making blankets for her loved ones which they still enjoy to this day. She spent many hours supporting and being involved in the local rodeo programs. Ann was a member of the Grandview Baptist Church.
Survivors include: her daughter, Lisa Edwards and husband Mike of Kingfisher, OK; nephew, Kenny Perry and wife Nancy of Madison, MS; niece, Donda Renee Richards and David of Chouteau, OK; granddaughter, Madisyn Edwards of Kingfisher, OK, grandson, Bradyn Edwards of Kingfisher; and a sister-in-law, Mary Mathews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Willis and Lila Mathews; her husband, Cecil Payne; brothers, Dewey Mathews, Sterling Mathews, Billy Sam Mathews, Willis Mathews and Dee Mathews; sisters, Leota Perry and Louise Mathews.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at the Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Michael Hart officiating. Services are under the direction of Hunn Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hunnfuneralhome.com.
