Michael Shawn Templeton, 48, of Eufaula, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2024.
Michael was born on August 21, 1975, in Odessa, Texas, to Robert L. and Tex Ann (Hardin) Templeton. After Michael graduated from Hartshorne High School in 1993, he enlisted in the Oklahoma Army National Guard, where he served for three years.
He married LaTricia Pennington in Prague, Oklahoma, on November 23, 1995. They enjoyed their life in Hartshorne together for many years. LaTricia preceded him in death on December 16, 2016.
Michael had many professions throughout his life and was knowledgeable in many different areas. His diverse career path included roles as a certified Emergency Medical Technician, a carpenter at D. R. Horton, Inc., a mechanic and tow truck operator for Colbert's Towing, worked at 6 Foot Under Gun Shop, was a Parts Specialist at O'Reilly Auto Parts, and worked at True Value in Eufaula and Checotah. He was currently employed at the McIntosh County Sheriff's Office. Michael was also serving as C.E.O. and Co-Owner of Lake Eufaula Tactical & Supply in Checotah.
Michael's passion for firearms was evident as a Co-Owner of Lake Eufaula Tactical & Supply. He was a CLEET-certified Oklahoma Self-Defense Instructor, National Rifle Association Instructor, and Muskogee/Checotah Gun Club Range Master. He enjoyed building guns, gunsmithing, shooting, and just discussing firearms in general.
Michael's character was a unique blend of strength, stubbornness, and a warm heart. He had recently found solace in his faith by praying daily and was working on self-improvement. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, construction work, watching comedy movies, and listening to 80s rock and country music. Michael's true passion was spending time with Linda and their Boston Terriers, Barkley, Bailey, and Baxter.
Survivors include his partner of seven years, Linda Silk; mother, Tex Ann Templeton of Van Buren, AR; sisters Sherri Rich and husband Phillip of Hackett, AR; Robbie Climer and husband Tommy; and Caitlin Barraza and husband Fernando of Jacksonville, FL.
He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Templeton, his wife, LaTricia Templeton, grandparents Fred and Lila Templeton, Lucille and John Hardin, Glen and Nancy Simms, and Leslie Simms.
His departure comes as a great shock to his entire family and countless others who deeply loved him in our community. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at the Hunn Funeral Home Chapel of Checotah. Services are under the direction of Hunn Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
