Michael Carter Obituary

On 5 November 2020 Michael was called home because his work was complete. Mike was a dedicated Deacon of Mt Olive Star Missionary Baptist Church in Checotah. He loved his church and his friend and Pastor Samuel L Cunningham Sr and family.

He met and married his wife Sandra on December 20th 1989. He was a devoted husband and father of two and a Pop - Pop to seven grandkids. He loved taking the grandkids fishing and camping, even though they caught more fish than him at times.  He loved spending time with them.

Mike attended and graduated school at Northwest Classen in 1972. He joined the United States Navy where he served his country and received an honorable discharge.  He worked at the Southern Oklahoma Treatment Center for 21 years. He was known as Big Mike to his clients. He enjoyed his work and was always planting a garden for the clients every year and planning fish fries and Barbeque events for them. The clients enjoyed the Feeding All Souls Christmas Dinner our church has on Christmas Day. Mike was a very talented person. He loved to do woodwork, cook, barbeque food, watch all sports and fish.  He also coached Checotah Little League baseball for a while. His greatest love was fishing. He would share his fish with family and friends. He never met a stranger and was always friendly with a big smile and heart.  He was truly a fisher of men and women. He loved to talk about the Lord to family, friends and strangers too. If there is a pond of water in Heaven you will find him there fishing with his brothers and mother and sister.

He was born on March 9th 1954 to Bessie and Mervin Carter Sr in OKC.

His mother, father, brothers, Mervin Jr, and Roger and sister Alice preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his death, a wife Sandra of the home, a daughter Sasha Warrior of Checotah, a son James A Boyd of Poteau, a daughter-in-law ShaRon Boyd of Checotah, seven grandkids,  Isaiah Butler of Texas, Erin Butler of Checotah,  Sierra Smith of Muskogee, Tyra Smith of Checotah, Aniyah Boyd of Checotah, Jaidin Boyd of Checotah, and Haven Warrior of Checotah and a devoted sister Frankie Carter of OKC, and a dear friend Montgomery Starks of OKC, a sister-in-law Cheryl Carter, of OKC., two favorite nephews, Ronnie Harrison of Nevada and Franklin Carter of OKC, brothers-in-law, Luches Warrior Jr of Checotah, Donald and Sandra Warrior of Checotah, Duane and Tema Warrior of Checotah, Billy Ray Warrior of Checotah and sisters-in-law Bonnie Whitfield of OKC and Kathy Dan of Checotah, and very special friends, Tommy and Eddy Blackburn of Blackwell, OK and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
