Mary Stidham Obituary


Mary Stidham, lovingly known as Mommy Mar by her family, 92, of Checotah, Oklahoma, passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at her home surrounded by family.  She was born on March 30, 1929, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, the daughter of Chapman and Georgia (Shutt) Bartleson.  She graduated from Muskogee High School in 1947. Mary attended the University of Oklahoma and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.  On July 3, 1951, Mary married George Lee Stidham in Checotah.  They were happily married for sixty-five years.  Lee preceded her in death on November 21, 2016.  Mary was very active in the community. She was a member of PEO, Friends of Honey Springs, and she was instrumental in the Christmas parties with Options.  She was a member of the Katy Depot, sat on the board of directors at Peoples National Bank and served as Vice President of Peoples National Bancshares.  She was always willing to help and gave to others behind the scenes.  Mary was a member of the Checotah First United Methodist Church. Mary enjoyed family trips, watching OU ballgames and spending time with her best friend and spouse, Gee.
Survivors include: her son, Steve and wife Liz Stidham of Tulsa, daughter, Susan and husband Jim Brandon of Tulsa, son-in-law, Robert Jennings of Checotah, grandkids, Carter Jennings, Taylor Jennings, Sarah Stidham and husband Chris Gonzales, Lee Brandon, Jay Jennings and wife Quaye, Kate Brandon and Matthew Jennings, great grandkids, Jack and Caroline Gonzales.  She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband George Lee Stidham (Gee), daughter, Mary Katherine (Kathy) Jennings, father and mother-in-law, George and Irene Stidham, and  sister, Jeannette Edmondson and husband J. Howard and brother in law, Donal Stidham.
Viewing will be held from 1-6 p.m., Friday, August 27, at the First United Methodist Church.  A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 28, 2021, at the Greenlawn Cemetery with Reverend Mark Watson officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Checotah First United Methodist Church Building Fund.
