Mary Luton Obituary

Mary Arlene Luton, 72, of Summerville, Georgia, formerly of Muskogee, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2023. Mary was born on March 8, 1951, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, the daughter of Elmo Edmond and Mary Nola (Jackson) Tillman.  Arlene worked a variety of jobs in her younger years, like restaurants and grocery stores. She married Allen Luton on August 28, 1970, in Muskogee, Oklahoma. When Arlene found banking, she excelled because she enjoyed numbers and the financial aspect of her role. As always, Arlene enjoyed being around the public. Arlene was active in the West Side Church of Christ while living in Muskogee. She along with her husband Allen ran the bus for the school of the blind on Sunday mornings to bring those children to church. Arlene was also heavily involved with church activities. She liked to take the kids from church to the Tulsa Zoo. She was very happy with being able to drive the large church bus and coordinate field trips.

Arlene and Allen lived in Muskogee, Oklahoma until 1989 when they moved to Seattle, Washington with their two children. Arlene transitioned into mortgages when she moved to Seattle. She took a funding position and worked at a couple different mortgage companies during the remainder of her career. Arlene liked to help in her community and joined the Federal Way Washington Police Department as a victim advocate. She worked several years assisting police officers on calls for domestic violence, death notifications and abuse calls. Arlene and Allen moved to Summerville, Georgia in 2020. She was a member of the Pennville Church of Christ. In her spare time, Arlene enjoyed sketching, painting, sewing, arts and crafts, and baking delicious desserts.

Survivors include: her husband, Allen of Summerville, Georgia; son Scott and wife Deena Luton of Cumming, Georgia; daughter, Cheryl Mathews of Summerville, Georgia; grandson, Alex Mathews and his fiancé Sarah Wright with their son Earnie Mathews; and sisters Marsha Repond, Joyce Huggins, and Genell Nicolas. She is preceded in death by her parents Elmo and Nola Tillman, brother Ricky Tillman and grandson Earnie Mathews.
