Lorene "Mamaw" (Underhill) Stewart

Lorene "Mamaw" Stewart, 92, of Spiro, Oklahoma formerly of Checotah, received her eternal reward Friday, January 17, 2025. Lorene was born on October 18, 1932, in Texanna, Oklahoma, the daughter of Francis Myrl and Nevada Lavinia (Hood) Underhill. Lorene enjoyed playing softball in high school. Lorene gave her life to the Lord when she was 14. She had strong faith believing that "I have failed Him lots; He's never failed me yet." and she wanted her family to know about her Savior. On October 31, 1951, Lorene married Curtis Stewart Sr. in Van Buren, Arkansas. They lived in a couple of  houses in Tulsa before moving back to Checotah. Lorene lived in Checotah, OK with her husband Curtis for around 30 years before moving to Spiro. She worked at Linda-Mar Drive In Diner for several years. She would always take the family to Sunday school and church. She made sure they knew there would be a time that Jesus would come back to take His believers home and she wanted them to be a part of that. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She also loved telling stories about her husband. They were married almost 57 years and she missed him terribly. Lorene never met a stranger. If you were around, she would treat you like her own. She often made coconut cream, pecan and chocolate pies. Hallmark movies were a daily staple in her home. Lorene was a member of the Crossroads Pentecostal Church for many years and spent her final years as a member of Spiro United Pentecostal Church.

She is survived by two grandchildren, Mark and Connie Stewart of Broken Arrow and Misty and Rickey Weatherford of Broken Arrow and grandson-in-law, Jeremy Porter of Spiro, seven great grandchildren, and ten great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Nevada (Hood) Underhill, her husband Curtis Roy Stewart Sr., two children, Curtis Roy Stewart Jr and Debra L. Stewart, daughter-in-law Cass Ann Stewart and one granddaughter, Michel Porter.

Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at the Hunn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Greenlawn Cemetery under the direction of Hunn Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
