Larry Hughes Obituary

Larry Joe Hughes, 74, of Checotah, Oklahoma, passed from this life to his eternal home, on September 20, 2022.  He was born September 1, 1948, to Samuel and Naomi (Christopher) Hughes, in Checotah.  He was the first child of two brothers and three sisters.
As an infant, he left Oklahoma with his parents and was raised in Kansas City, Missouri.  He received his education from the Kansas City School District.
Larry was united in marriage to Rosie Bruner in Kansas City, on July 25,1970.  Shortly after, they both returned to Checotah, where he made his forever home. To this union, four children were born.
Larry accepted Christ at an early age. His church home was Morning Star Baptist Church. He was ordained as a minister on June 27, 2021.
He worked various jobs throughout his life, retiring from Georgia Pacific.
Larry loved to fish and cook.  He loved his wife and his family with all his heart.  He was a wonderful son, husband, father, grandfather (and great), brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend.  He loved family reunions, where he showed his cooking and grilling skills. He was a great entertainer with funny stories from the past.
Larry was preceded in death by both parents.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 52 years, Rosie, along with four children, Laconia Hughes, Larri Hughes, Lanita Cunningham, and Lamar (Tonia) Hughes. He is survived by one brother, Samuel Hughes, and three sisters, Esther (Robert) Parker, Veronica (Bennie) Young, all of Kansas City, MO and Evelyn Mays of Atlanta, GA.  Also, two aunts, Theressa JoAnn Bright, and V. Lanell Christopher, a total of 17 grandchildren, five great-grands and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, church family and friends.
The family of Larry Hughes would like to extend our gratitude to all family and friends.  We appreciate every prayer, kind gesture, phone call, visit, card, and every other expression of comfort during this very difficult time. May God Bless and keep each of you.
