Kogee Louise Sulphur, 90, of Checotah, Oklahoma, passed away Friday, February 24, 2023, at her home. Kogee was born on May 8, 1932, in Richardville, Oklahoma, the daughter of George Barnett and Hattie (July) Frye. She attended elementary at the Eufaula Boarding School and graduated from the Haskell Indian Institute. Kogee was an LPN her whole life. Kogee was a spiritual person who loved attending church and serving God. She became a member of the MSW Association starting at the age of 20 until 1991. She was an officer for three years at the Indian Falls Creek, and she served as a teacher for the Women's Missionary Union. While living in North Carolina, Kogee was a member of the Old Antioch Baptist Church for over twenty years. After returning to Oklahoma, she became a member of the Deep Fork Hillabee Baptist Church. Kogee was a good Christian woman who loved helping others. She enjoyed being outdoors, hiking, baking fried pies and loved food.
Survivors include: her daughter, Debra St. Clair Carter of Checotah; her sons, Bobby Sulphur and Christina Tiger of Henryetta, Wayne Harjo and Lucille of Okemah; twelve grandchildren, Samson Frye, Sharon Frye Bradley and Jason Bradley, Howie Morgan and Frances Armachain Morgan, Ricky Morgan and Kimberly Fields, Terry Morgan and Sheena Crowe Morgan, Johnny Postoak Jr. and Amy Kalonaheskie Postoak, Tressia Postoak Hicks, Kogee Postoak, Wakita Postoak Santana and Lalo Santana, Konawv Postoak, Washakie Postoak and Hannah Jackson, and Kyra Carter and Robert Houser; 50 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Wallace H. St. Clair; her second husband, Joseph Sulphur; a son and daughter in law, Wallace and Martha (Jackson) St. Clair, sister, Pauline Frye, grandson, Benjamin Postoak and great grandchildren, Baby Kay and Baby Aris.
A wake service will be held 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 28, at the Deep Fork Hillabee Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at the Deep Fork Hillabee Baptist Church with Wayne Harjo and Oscar Hicks officiating. Pallbearers were Howard Morgan, Johnny Postoak, Bobby Sulphur, Washakie Postoak, Terry Morgan, Shawnee Harper and Bill Welch. Burial will be at the Coody Cemetery under the direction of Hunn Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
