Kenneth James Thatcher

Kenneth James “Jimmy” Thatcher, 76, of Checotah, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026, at St. Francis Health Center in Muskogee, Oklahoma, surrounded by the love and memories of a life well lived.

Born on July 12, 1949, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, Kenneth was the son of Kenneth Merle Thatcher and Francis Imogene (Johnson) Thatcher. He grew into a hardworking, dependable man whose quiet strength, steady presence, and generous heart left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

On February 15, 1986, Kenneth married the love of his life, Debbra Kay Davis, in a beautiful backyard ceremony at his parents’ home, surrounded by family and friends. Together they built a life founded on love, loyalty, and devotion, sharing 40 remarkable years of marriage. Through every season of life, Kenneth remained a faithful husband, devoted father, and proud grandfather whose greatest joy was caring for those he loved.

Kenneth dedicated much of his working life to honest, hardworking service. He spent approximately 23 years with Union Pacific Railroad as a track laborer before retiring in 2013. His strong work ethic was evident throughout his life, including his years with Kelly Monument, Taft Correctional Center, and the Muskogee Blind School. He believed in providing for his family and took pride in every job he held.

While Kenneth was known for his hard work, he also knew how to enjoy life's simple pleasures. He loved traveling with Debbra, especially on trips to visit their daughter, Valerie, wherever life had taken her family. Their adventures together created treasured memories, and their visits to Las Vegas were among his favorites.

Kenneth had a lifelong appreciation for automobiles and proudly collected Hot Wheels and die-cast cars. He cherished the freedom of the open road and enjoyed spending time on his motorcycle. Friends and family will fondly remember seeing him relax with his tobacco pipe in hand, the familiar aroma becoming one of the many memories forever connected to him.

Above all, Kenneth will be remembered as a good man—a man of integrity, loyalty, and quiet kindness. He loved deeply, worked hard, and stood by those he cared about. His presence brought comfort, his wisdom brought guidance, and his love created a foundation for generations of family. Though he will be greatly missed, the lessons he taught and the love he shared will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

Kenneth is survived by his beloved wife, Debbra Thatcher, of the home; his daughter, Valerie Granade and husband David, of Texas; his adopted daughter, Bianca Montoya, of Muskogee, Oklahoma; Bianca’s daughters, Maricruz and Neveah; Bianca’s mother, Emma Montoya; three nephews and one niece; four grandchildren, Haley, Joe, Dylan and Ansley; eight great-grandchildren; his faithful beagle mix, Royce; and many cherished railroad friends and lifelong companions.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Francis Thatcher; his sister, Linda Etchison; and his beloved English Bulldog, Boomer.

A devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, loyal friend, and hardworking provider, Kenneth leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and dedication that will never be forgotten.

Honoring Kenneth cremation is planned.  No services have been scheduled at this time.
