Kenneth Austin Obituary

Kenneth Ray Austin, 77, was born on July 4, 1948, in Minden, Louisiana, to William and Lucille Austin. He passed away leaving behind a legacy of service, hard work, and deep love for his family.

Kenneth proudly served his country in the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his bravery and service. Following his time in the military, he married Karon LeJune Hamm, and together they built a life rooted in dedication and family. He spent his career working for the Union Pacific Railroad as a track foreman, where he was known for his strong work ethic and leadership.

Kenneth was a man who was loved by many and will be remembered for his humor and quick wit, strength, resilience, and the care he showed to those around him.

He is survived by his son, Kenneth Austin II and wife Shelley of Prague, Oklahoma; and his daughter, Kari Meaders of Checotah, Oklahoma. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Ty Meaders and Livia of Checotah, Oklahoma; Kira Meaders and fiancé Sammy Luker of Checotah, Oklahoma; Alicia Walker and husband Russell of Prague, Oklahoma, and their children Weston, Leigh, and Coleman; Kirsty Coomer and husband Cody of Prague, Oklahoma, and their children Bentyn and Claire; Maranda Green of Prague, Oklahoma, and her children Layla and Bobby Beyer; Bailey Diaz and husband Juan of Braggs, Oklahoma, and their children Zay, Kamren, Karson, and Kruize; Nathalia Austin of North Carolina. He is also survived by his great-granddaughter, Scottie Rae Meaders.

Kenneth’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 27, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hunn Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Checotah.

Graveside services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at the pavilion at Greenlawn Cemetery, located at 420219 E. 1080 Rd., Checotah, Oklahoma 74426. Interment will follow.
