Jimmy Ray Lashley, age 89, of Checotah, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 8, 2026.
Jim was born on October 1, 1936, in Cowlington, Oklahoma, to Troy Quincy Lashley and Ruby "Jewell" (Dearmon) Lashley. His life journey took him from Oklahoma to California and back home again, shaping the man so many came to know and love.
He graduated from East Bakersfield High School in Bakersfield, California, in 1955 and later attended Bakersfield College. In 1958, Jim married Betty Louise Duke in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together they shared many years of life until her passing on April 21, 2021.
Jim spent 46 years working as an automobile salesman with Ford Motor Company, a career marked by dedication, integrity, and a genuine love for people. He began in 1967 at Haberfelde Ford, a prominent dealership which later became Jim Burke Ford in Bakersfield. He continued his work at Eufaula Ford after relocating to Oklahoma in 1998, where he remained until his retirement.
A devoted fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Jim also treasured the simple joys of life—good conversations, laughter, and time spent with family and friends. Those closest to him will remember his warmth, work ethic, and the pride he took in caring for the people he loved.
Jim is survived by his son, Todd Lashley of Checotah, Oklahoma; his brother, Harold Lashley of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; and many extended family members and friends who will continue to carry his memory with them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Jewell Lashley; his wife, Betty Lashley (2021); his sons, Steve Lashley (2008) and Jimmy Ray Lashley Jr. (1958); and his siblings, Jennie, Troy Jr., Dorothy, and Charles.
Graveside services honoring Jim’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Greenlawn Cemetery in Checotah, Oklahoma, with Pastor Kathryn Hurst officiating. Interment will follow.
Arrangements are entrusted to Hunn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 211 W. Okmulgee, Checotah, Oklahoma 74426.
