Born on April 13, 1949 in Shawnee Oklahoma to Billy Joe and Rosa Lena Turner passed away on Friday October 21, 2016 at his home in Muskogee Oklahoma.
J.D. to everyone that knew him, thrived to show loyalty and respect to all that deserved it. Proudly serving our country as a radio operator in the US Navy going on to do (3) tours in the Vietnam War dated 1969 - 1971. Where he was apart of the Brown Water Navy aiding the South Vietnamese Navy in building and equipting them on how to stay suppilied, operational and inflitration of the North Vietnamese of the smaller waterways, canals, and river deltas of the country. Later to be honorablely discharged in May of 1971. Attending the Unniversity of New Mexico got his degree in Respirtory Therapy. Helping to start the use of the diagnostics machines in respirtory analasyis at the San Juan Hospital in Utah, made his rounds as a respiratory nurse. Enjoying life and the community, JD gave a little something back working as a police officer while living in Oklahoma. Also becoming Commander in Chief of serveral veteran organizations. V.F.W., American Legion, and D.A.V. These organizations is where he showed his compation for his fellow man. Becoming Trustee of Muskogee War Memorial Park - Home of the USS BATFISH where he started the Veterans Walk of Honor and in Pampa Texas as well. He was the National Detupy Chief of staff for the VFW and DAV. Where you would be able to find him on the TV with those late night commericals to come out and support your veterans with a fun game of bingo or making some of the best pancakes ever on Saturday. Showing love for his country went onto start the Veterans Affairs Patient Advocacy Program at the VA hospital and becoming the First Patient Advocate.
Married on April 7, 1977 in Lake City, Iowa to AnonA Gail Quick. JD and AnonA met on December 21, 1975 in Pampa Texas later to settle Muskogee Oklahoma where they welcomed a son on January 16, 1984. Proud Father, husband, brother, community figure, finished out his life with respect and dignity.
Retired in 2003 from the public view kept his veterans safe by staying Commander of DAV until 2014. Where he brought them to state durning the Military Apprication FundRaiser at the Golden Corral the last few years.
He is survived by his wife AnonA Gail Turner, son Joe Deric Turner, daughter-in-law Leann Turner, brother Timothy Joey Turner, granddaughter Mary Ann Turner. And many friends and extended family members.
