Henry (Sam) Bennett Obituary

Henry (Sam) Clay Bennett, 85, passed from this life to his eternal home, September 19th, 2022.  Sam was born in Dallas, Texas on December 16th, 1936, to E.G. Bennett and Opal Inez (Coberly) Bennett.

He grew up in Dallas and began working as a brick mason with his uncles while in high school.  Later, he owned his own brick mason business before retiring and selling the business to his friend, Bill Crosby and son Billy Boy Crosby.  Bill had worked for Sam for many years.

In 1963, Sam relocated to Oklahoma living in the Hitchita area.  He met LaVada Spurgon and they were later married on December 16th, 1975, until her passing in 2021.  For the past 20 years Sam enjoyed lake life on Lake Eufaula.

Sam was a huge St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan.  He also enjoyed fishing and restoring classic cars.  He was honest in all his dealings having an excellent reputation with everyone he did business.

He was preceded in death by his parents, E.G. and Opal Bennett; wife, LaVada Bennett; daughters, Dana Bennett and Leslie Cantrell; sisters, Faye Russell and Peggy Short; brother-in-law Charles Short; grandson, Brett Bible; and his children's mother, Helen Carroll Hogan.  He is survived by his son, Sammy (Spike) Bennett of Checotah; daughter, Sharalee Bible of Checotah; stepson, Kevin Wilson of Chelsea, Oklahoma; stepdaughter, Leanne Hill of Chelsea; brothers, Jerry Bennett of Maybank, Texas and Tommy Bennett (Cindy) also of Maybank; 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren.

A memorial service honoring Sam's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 23rd, 2022, in the Liberty Baptist Church, Morris, Oklahoma with Rev. Josh McElyea and Rev. Jeff Ward officiating.
