Hazel Marie (Hughes) Brashear, passed from this life on March 26th, 2022, in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Hazel was born June 20, 1936, in Porum, Oklahoma to Walter Lee and Padie (Chamber) Hughes. She was one of nine children.
Hazel attended Muskogee schools and later moved with her family to Catoosa, Oklahoma. She worked in Catoosa as a bar tender, truck driver and roofer. For about four years, she owned a bar in Catoosa. She and her brother, Lonnie, owned and operated a trucking company. She also co-owned a roofing business with her late husband, Jerry Shouse. Hazel retired from Rollings Hills Nursing Home in Catoosa after 26 years as a dietician.
She enjoyed crocheting and playing Bingo.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Padie Hughes; husbands, Paul Breeden and Jerry Shouse; daughter, Nancy Sikes; sisters, Lena Mae Graves, Maxine Goldsmith, and Wilma Dean Howard; brothers, Lonnie Hughes, Bennie Hughes, and Frank Hughes. She is survived by her son, Tommie and wife Sherry Goodner of Talala, Oklahoma; brothers, Charlie Hughes of Muskogee and Bill Hughes of Braggs; and too numerous to name, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and four great, great grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Hunn Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 211 W. Okmulgee Ave., Checotah, Oklahoma 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on March 31, 2022. A graveside service celebrating her life will be held at Fields Cemetery in Porum, Oklahoma at 10:00 a.m., April 1, 2022.
