Evelyn Potts Obituary

EVELYN RUTH POTTS
1932 - 2016

Evelyn Ruth (Ayers) Potts, 83, died Friday at The Springs skilled nursing center in Muskogee, OK. Ruth was born December 2, 1932 to Perry Arthur and Sarah Ona (McCulley) Ayers at Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, the second of ten children. She grew up in Fort Gibson and Braggs and graduated from Braggs High School. Ruth married Leonard Charles "Joe" Potts in 1951 and they were together for almost 50 years.
In her early life, Ruth worked in banking and spent many years in accounting for the Veterans Administration, retiring after more than 30 years. She raised three boys, Michael James, Jeffrey David, and Darren Edward Potts balancing the joys of being a full time mother, wife, and accountant. Following retirement she kept busy in positions with Muskogee Federal Credit Union, the US Census Bureau, and traveling to spend time with friends and family. She loved being a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, impacting so many people in her community in the long span of her life. We are blessed to have learned many things from Ruth, to have joyful faith in Christ, live life with a sense of humor and never forget the value of family. God has taken her to a wonderful place where she will be reunited with family and friends, dancing with her "Sweetie", surrounded by endless beauty products and enjoying crossword puzzles. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joe Potts, her son Darren Potts, brothers, Jim Ayers and Charles Ayers and her best friend and partner, Bill Hile.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law; Mike and Brenda Potts of Muskogee, Jeff and Michelle Potts of St. Charles, IL; grandchildren, Megan Varnell and husband Derek, and Amanda and Adam Potts of Muskogee, Jessica Griffing and husband Austin of Jupiter, FL, Lauren and Madison Potts of Illinois; great grandchildren, Finnley and Jetty Griffing, and Gunner Varnell; sisters, Wanda Long, Lois Whitley and husband Ray, Janet Lanier and husband Larry, and Sharon Willis; brothers, Perry Jr. and wife Millie, George and wife Dorothy, and Ronald Ayers and wife Wanda, sister-in-law Janice Ayers along with many other members of this large, loving family.
Viewing will be at Foster-Petering Funeral Home in Muskogee beginning Tuesday Morning at 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., also Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The family will greet friends on Wednesday, 6:00-8:00pm, at Foster-Petering Funeral Home.
