Edward W. "Popz" Eickhoff, 87, of Checotah, Oklahoma passed away Monday evening, February 17, 2025.
Edward was born in Detroit, Michigan, where he lived until he joined the Navy in 1955. He served 20 years, a welding instructor in the Seabees, 2 tours of Vietnam and he loved talking about Antarctica.
Edward married Susan Yaeger in Fresno, California in May 1986. They were married 39 years.
Edward was a very conservative, humble man with a great sense of humor, quick witted and enjoyed sharing stories. He always extended a helping hand to those in need.
He was a life time member of the Eufaula V.F.W. Post #8798, The Loyal Order of Moose and The Board of Directors of Shady Grove Central High Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Eickhoff of the home; children, Cathy Stevens of Missouri, Randy Messer of Nevada, Marie Santos of Idaho, Edward Eickhoff Jr. of North Dakota, Lawrence Arens of Hawaii and William Eickhoff of Washington; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; siblings, Larry Eickhoff, Maxine Eickhoff, Rickelle Boyless, Charles Eickhoff and Ralph Eickhoff all of Michigan and many, many, nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kurt M. Eickhoff and Wilma I. Harkness; his brother, Kurt E. Eickhoff and a sister, Carolyn Pates.
Honoring Edward cremation is planned. A family conducted Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 1:30 pm at the Checotah First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 419 W. Gentry Ave., Checotah, Oklahoma 74426 with Pastor Mark Watson officiating.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Hunn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 211 W. Okmulgee St., Checotah, Oklahoma 74426.
