Dora Stockton Obituary

Dora Lea Stockton, 66, of Checotah, passed away on January 21, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.

Born February 3, 1959, in Checotah, Dora grew up with a deep love for learning and children. After attending Checotah schools most of her life, her family moved to Pleasant Plains, Arkansas where she graduated in 1976. She later earned multiple degrees in early childhood development from Northeastern State University. Teaching wasn’t just her career — it was her calling. She cherished every child who walked into her classroom and loved sharing stories from her years in education. Dora also worked for Wal-Mart for several years where she could be found happily helping in customer service.

Dora was a woman of quiet joys. She found peace in sewing, crocheting, reading, and playing bingo, and she adored the time spent with her cats, Lela and Camo. Dora loved her family and friends deeply, and she especially enjoyed watching Jett and Cooper grow up. Dora never had children of her own, but she spent her life helping her sister Terry raise Laren. She was a longtime member of First Assembly of God in Checotah, where her faith grounded her life.

She is survived by her sister, Terry Teafatiller; her niece, Laren Jenkins and husband Jason, and their children, Jett and Cooper; her aunts, Linda Stockton and Nina Stewart; her stepfather, Donald Ray; and stepsiblings, Keith Ray (Gwen) and LaDonna Utley (Tom). She also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will miss her kindness and gentle spirit.

Dora was preceded in death by her parents, Rodger Stockton and Norma Ray; her grandparents, Dail and Dorothy Stockton and Monroe and Avel Stewart; and her brother-in-law, Jim Teafatiller.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Hunn Funeral Home in Checotah, with burial to follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday and Wednesday, January 27–28, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, Dora had asked that contributions be made to St. Francis Children’s Hospital in Tulsa. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Pleasant Valley Health Care Center in Muskogee and Dr. Decker and the critical care team at St. Francis Tulsa for their compassionate care.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Hunn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 211 W. Okmulgee, Checotah, Oklahoma 74426.
