Danita Caryl Hicks, 58, of Checotah, died Monday, March 15th, 2021 at Walnut Grove Nursing Home in McAlester. She was born on December 2, 1962 in Midwest City, Oklahoma.
Danita was very active with working and enjoying many activities. She loved to dance, enjoyed Elvis music, going to concerts, and Karaoke. She enjoyed traveling and went on several cruises. Her first airplane ride was to Las Vegas. She was on the Price is Right in Branson. Danita was a Special Olympics Gold Medal winner. Also, she enjoyed shopping.
Danita was preceded in death by her father, Foster Hicks; step-father, Jack Martin; and grandparents, Flora and Orville Taber and Ruth and Perry Hicks.
She is survived by her mother, Rowena Martin of Canadian, OK; brother, Cameron Hicks-Maw and Stacy of Canadian; and sister, Renee Hicks and Thomas Brown, Jr. of Canadian.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2021. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at First Methodist Church of Checotah. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jacob Ford, Roy Benedict, Mike Cunningham, Stacy Maw, T.J. Brown and Patrick Taber. Honorary pallbearers are Travis Killey, Robert Weaver, and Derek Robertson.
