Claude "Gube" Whisenhunt

Rev. Claude Junior “Gube” Whisenhunt, 95, of Checotah, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Checotah Nursing & Rehabilitation in Checotah, Oklahoma.

He was born October 23, 1928, in Texanna, Oklahoma, the son of Joseph Whisenhunt and Lydia Newton Whisenhunt.

Gube retired from McIntosh County as a truck driver.  He was a minister in various locations throughout Oklahoma and was baptized in the Kern River in California in 1958.  He was a member of Texanna Assembly of God.

Gube married Anna Imogene Hurst Whisenhunt on October 30, 1950 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  They were married 61 years before preceding him in death on June 29, 2011.  He later remarried Wynema Louise Duncan Whisenhunt.  She also preceded him in death on October 7, 2018.

Gube had many interests.  He especially enjoyed tractors and pocket knives.

Survivors include his children, Joe Whisenhunt and wife Betty, Mary Jean Storm and husband Hoy, Tim Whisenhunt and wife Marje and Lisa Glover and husband Darren all of Checotah, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Heidi, Bryon and wife Heather, Hanni and husband Marty, Aprel and husband Seth, Amanda and husband Blake, Magen and husband Chris, Emma, Tyler and wife Amanda and Taylor.; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and a sister, Mildred “Mott” Wooten of Checotah.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Lydia Whisenhunt; two wives, Imogene Whisenhunt and Wynema Whisenhunt; brother, Earnest (Tom) Whisenhunt; sisters, Mary Whisenhunt, Johnnie Mae Davis, Jessie Imogene Armer and daughter-in-law, Kathy Whisenhunt.

Visitation for Gube will be held at 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at Hunn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 211 W. Okmulgee St., Checotah, Oklahoma 74426. 

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Texanna Assembly of God, 425739 Texanna Rd., Checotah, Oklahoma 74426 with Darren Glover and Seth Paris officiating.  Interment will follow at Triplett Cemetery.

Casket Bearers will be Bryon Smith, Tyler Glover, Taylor Glover, Wyatt Willard-Smith, Chris Robison and Hoy Storm.  Honorary Casket Bearers will be William Crawford, Nolan Barnes, Braden Barnes, Jacob Ellison, Blake Keeter, Lonnie Robison, Mac McBride, Truman Clark, Randall Dunegan, Tim Allen, Perry Ketchum, Dee Whisenhunt and Butch Hagler.
