Bryan Groves Obituary


Bryan Allen Groves, 53, of Vian formerly of Yukon and Muskogee, Oklahoma, passed away Friday, February 3, 2023, at his home. Bryan was born on April 2, 1969, in Dallas, Texas, the son of George Allen and Vivian Fern (Leflore) Groves. He graduated from Muskogee High School in 1987. He attended Connors State College majoring in Criminal Justice. On February 7, 1989, Bryan enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. While serving he received several awards including the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Secretary of State Letter of Appreciation, Navy Unit Commendation, Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal and the Southwest Asia Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Rifle Badge Sharpshooter. He served in Desert Storm and Desert Shield. He was honorably discharged on September 17,1992. After he left the Marine Corp, Bryan worked for a short time at the National Cemetery in Fort Gibson. He then worked for the Indian Health Services as a security guard. Bryan married Cheryl Lynn Lamb on May 15, 2004, in Big Cabin, Oklahoma. They were happily married for eighteen years. Bryan completed a seventeen-week police training course at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Artesia, NM.  Bryan later worked as a police officer for the Bureau of Indian Affairs for twenty years. He was a certified sharpshooter with the BIA and received several awards including the Governor Award from the state of Wyoming for DUI arrests and the BIA -OJS Life Saving Award. He was also certified in hostage negotiations. Bryan received a commendation for thirty-one years of working for the federal government. Bryan loved fishing, lake life, boating, music, movies and shopping. He enjoyed collecting knives and cooking on the grill.
Survivors include: his wife, Cheryl of the home; children Roman Allen Groves and wife Shawna of Fairland Kayla Renee Albright and husband Zachary of Verdigris and Ranger Dalton Groves of Vian; sister, Jani Michelle Groves Reheard of Muskogee; grandchildren, Koda Ray Thelin, Kenai Bear Thelin, Ryker John Albright, Ryler Hudson Albright, Elijah Thomas Groves, Olivia Marie Groves, Vivian Eileen Groves and Ryan Allen Groves (on the way). He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Vivian Groves.
      Visitation will be Wednesday, February 8, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hunn Funeral Home in Checotah and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.   Funeral services will be 1;00 p.m. Friday, February 10, 2023, at Timothy Baptist Church in Muskogee with Pastor Kelly Payne officiating.  Interment will follow in Fort Gibson National Cemetery.
