Bill Gene Miner, 93, went to his eternal home, July 15th, 2022. Bill was a lifetime Checotah resident having been born in Checotah, Oklahoma, Aprill 24th, 1929, to Virgil Thomas Miner and Virgie Floy (Martin) Miner.
Bill lived his entire life in Checotah attending Checotah schools graduating in 1947. In his last year of high school, Bill was selected as an All-State football player. He also attended Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton, Oklahoma.
Bill married Joyce Williams on June 16th, 1951. They just celebrated 71 years together. Their union was blessed with five children.
Bill and Joyce owned and operated a dairy. They bottled and delivered milk throughout Checotah for many years. He raised Poland-China hogs and in his later years operated a lawn service. Bill had a love for animals and was a huge OSU fan.
He was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church, Checotah, was an Eagle Scout and served as a Cub Scout leader for many, many years.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Virgie Miner; and brother, Thomas Earl Miner. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Joyce Miner of the home; sons, David William Miner and wife Cindy of Indianola, Oklahoma, Don Miner and wife Debbie of Checotah; daughters, Beth Ann Massey and husband John of Watonga, Oklahoma, Paula Jean Sizemore and husband Marcus of Barnsdall, Oklahoma, and Cindy Lee Montgomery and husband Steven of Eufaula; 16 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and 1 great, great grandchild.
Bill was well known in Checotah and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
A celebration of Bill's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 25th in the First Baptist Church of Checotah. Visitation will be each day 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service in the Hunn Funeral Home Chapel. He will be interred in the Greenlawn Cemetery following the funeral service. Officiating will be Dr. Dwight McGee, Bro. Dustin Tidwell and Bro. Steve Dennis. Pallbearers will be John Sizemore, Tommy Miner, Cole Montgomery, Joey Haggard, Tyrell Brown, and Lance Colburn. Honorary pallbearers are Bob Hogan, Jim Waits, Michael McCoy, Johnny Bivins, Randy Dixon, and Daren Dillman. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Bill Miner to the Checotah FFA Booster Club, P.O. Box 413, Checotah, OK 74426.
