Betty Alice (Smith) Johnson

Betty Alice Smith-Johnson, 64, departed this life too soon on June 6, 2021 at The Springs in Muskogee, Oklahoma.  Betty was born in Checotah, Oklahoma to Lewis and Johnnie (Deere)  Dabbs, April 23, 1957.  Betty married Kevin Johnson and that union had four children.

Betty attended school in Checotah, Eufaula and Topeka, KS earning her Associate Degree in medical billing while attending college in Kansas.  She worked at the Creek Nation Casino in Muskogee and retired from the Eufaula Indian Clinic as a medical receptionist in 2016. Betty was a member of the Little Coweta Indian Baptist Church.
  
Betty enjoyed many things in her lifetime.  She always looked for bargains at yard-sales and enjoyed fishing.  Betty often attended Native events in the area. She loved to drive and was known for trading cars almost every year.  Her time spent with her grandchildren was always a special delight to her.  She never passed up the chance to buy a new purse and loved her turquoise jewelry.  Her constant companion was her beloved Emma, a dapple daschund, who was always at her side. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Johnnie; daughter, Sherri Waters; brothers, Lewis "Sonny" Smith, Jr., and Gary Tom Smith and grandparents, Samsie Deere, Betty and Jimmy Derrisaw and her aunt Ella Derrisaw Campbell.  She is survived by son, James Johnson and wife Ciandra of Tulsa; daughters, Kerri Johnson and partner Steven Titsworth of Muskogee and Teri Yancey of Muskogee; brothers, Steve Smith, Todd Dabbs and Mark Dabbs; grandchildren, Ciara, Ronique, Jimmy, DeSean, Jordan, Lewis, E'Joshua, Rosa, Joyce, Valentero and James, Jr., a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and all the Johnson Family in Topeka, Kansas.  Betty will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
