Obituary

Alyce Lindquist Person, 91, of Muskogee, Oklahoma, left this life on Wednesday, December 8, 2021. She was born on May 12, 1930, to Albert and Emma Lindquist in Douglas County, near Alexandria, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Alyce was happy to have grown up on a farm and having grown up in a farming community, she maintained the simple country principles of the time throughout her life. She loved to share the stories with her children and grandchildren. After receiving her education, she worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. and met Don Person in Mankato, Minnesota. They were married in 1951. She retired after 14 years with the telephone company to become a ‘stay-at-home’ mother. Alyce loved sewing for her five girls through the years, making everything from school outfits and play clothes to prom dresses. Because of her husband's career, they transferred to Muskogee in 1967 where Alyce volunteered as a girl scout leader. Later, she became a cake decorator, influenced by her baker/chef husband. She also worked at Safeway and retired from the Walmart bakery in Wagoner. Alyce enjoyed her vocation; she met many nice people through the years and became known as ‘the cake lady’. She especially loved teaching cake decorating art at Hobby Lobby. Upon Don’s retirement, they became a team: baking, decorating, and delivering wedding cakes. “What great joy and fun you all gave us,” Alyce often said of their customers. When her husband became ill, she chose to stay home to be with him, spending their last year together. Alyce was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 53 years, daughter Josette Kelle, and brother Howard Lindquist. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Don Kelle of Ponca City, Lori Person and Larry Hulbert of Austin, Texas, Amy Love and Miriam Sommers of Muskogee, Jolie Person of Waco, Texas, six grandchildren; David Kelle, Sarah (Rob) Davis, Auston (Shae) and Christopher (Brittni) Sommers, and twins, Alexandra and Sophia Reynolds; brother Jim (Sharon) of Andover, Minnesota; nephews, John, Eric, and Jeff, and niece Andrea; and two great-grandchildren. Ezra Davis and Ellie Sommers. Alyce loved sketching and writing her life's story. She never met a stranger, for her character and spirit endeared her to all who met her. She was so loved. Alyce spent her lifetime leaving a legacy of love, integrity, loyalty, kindness, and understanding in her children to bestow upon family when the time came for her to leave this earth. We will forever adore and remember her. In the spring, Alyce’s daughters will host a Celebration of Life honoring their Mom. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Muskogee Public Library in Alyce’s name.
